Troop 244 is off to Summer Camp this weekend. We'll be hiking, swimming, getting new merit badges, getting rank, and enjoying the camaraderie of the Troop.
We're an active Troop, try to keep up. ; )

January 17, 2009 - Slight Change in Location
After much deliberation and discussion, the Troop trip leaders have decided to move the weekend trip to an alternate location due to the unknown trail conditions at the section of the AT that we'll be hiking. So this morning, we'll be headed to South Mountains State Park near Morganton, NC. The troop leaders feel this is the best option at this time.
We're all looking forward to hiking this weekend and having a great time with the Troop.
The South Mountains State Park map can be seen here: http://www.ncparks.gov/Visit/parks/somo/main.php
Keep an eye on the "Where are they hiking now?" link to see our latest position.

January 15 - Preparing for our AT hike
This is a simple blog to allow scouts, friends and family to track the ongoing adventures of Trooop 244.
Troop 244's older scouts will be hiking southbound from 19E in Tennessee to Iron Mountain Gap. The younger troop members will be hiking southbound from Overmountain trail to Hughes Gap, a much shorter section (approximately 12 miles).
Feel free to click on the link on the right hand side of this page ("Where is Troop 244 Hiking Now!?!?")to see where we are now. Of course the first few signals about our whereabouts are in Cary, but that will be updated when we get to the trail and start hiking.
If the technology works right you will see the progress of the younger scouts along the trail (we only have one SPOT GPS). If we remember, we plan to send a pre-formatted message out saying we've arrived at our camp site for the night and that all is well. You can leave comments about what you think of the technology on each post on this blog. We won't get the posts until we return or we get a cell signal.
This is an experiment to test some of this SPOT GPS technology. You can learn more about the technology at: http://findmespot.com/en/.
